The Prevent Strategy

The Prevent strategy introduces the Prevent duty which requires all education sectors to:

“Due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”, supporting terrorism or being drawn into non-violent extremism.

The Prevent duty is embedded within safeguarding policies. The aims of the Prevent duty are to:

  • Protect students from radicalisation influences
  • Build learners resilience to extremist narratives
  • Identify any vulnerabilities or worrying changes in behaviour
  • Ensure policies and procedures are in place for any concerns about a learner

As well as raising awareness about the Prevent duty, we actively embed this within our delivery by:

  • Creating a safe environment where learners can discuss controversial issues freely and openly
  • Provide skills and knowledge to explore political and social issues critically to weigh evidence, debate and make reasoned arguments
  • Promote the British Fundamental Values

All our staff and tutors are trained within the Prevent duty and are urged to be vigilant and report any concerns via our designated safeguarding officer.
