Training during Covid-19

Training during Covid-19

We don’t need to tell you the devastating effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic to all industries globally.

We have all been affected in some way, be it mentally, physically or financially. We still do not know what will be the new normal, if and when a vaccine will be available or when we can return to the aspects of life that we used to take for granted! Such as, walking straight into a shop without the need to queue! Or, spending time with our friends and family.

But, it is important to try to not dwell on the negative and the fear, but to try to look for the silver lining and grasp hold of any positive that we can. This will pass, we will never forget it, we will learn from it and we will rebuild our communities and our lives.

So, why is training during Covid-19 still important?

For current students, who are already half way through their course with us, it is important to keep some form of educational routine. All our work has been transferred to Google Classrooms and remote support has been provided by our tutors. This has enabled many learners to complete their course, gain their qualification and set on their career path, many of whom are going into the Health & Social Care Sector, allowing them to support this key sector within these difficult times.

For people who have lost their jobs, or have been furloughed due to Covid-19, these are stressful, uncertain times. Many people may be re-evaluating their career options and wish to take this time to expand their skill set.

Maintaining a routine with the course also supports the mental health of our students, they feel they have the purpose and the support in place.

Social distancing learning

Although we have enabled our courses to be delivered online, we still have some learners who need extra support, and for those learners who need to come into the centre we ensure social distancing. We are lucky enough to have large premises and large training rooms so we can practice social distancing. We also ensure hand-washing, cleaning and all health & safety aspects are rigorously carried out!

The future of training

Going forward, to the day when classroom delivery can return, we are looking at all our options, we appreciate a lot of people need classroom delivery, for their personal development, behaviour and well-being, and we will still always offer classroom delivery. But, we will also look at what courses we can offer online, this can be beneficial to the learner as they can access the course at a time to suit them, and work at their own pace, around their individual commitments.

We are also looking at blended learning, to see how courses can be a combination of online and classroom delivery to reduce the amount of time the learner needs to be in the classroom.

Regardless of the format of training, it is important to promote training and have training accessible to the individuals who want to access it.

Training does not only provide a qualification, it empowers the individual with a sense of achievement, confidence and self-belief, the greatest satisfaction of working within the training environment, is seeing the growth in confidence and watching the learners believe that they can achieve their goals.

I always said about my own training development that

“I entered further education as a caterpillar and emerged as a butterfly”

As such, The Training Brokers will always be here to educate, train and empower learners within Greater Manchester.
